About NEAR Protocol
What NEAR Protocol is
NEAR is a proof-of-stake layer-1 blockchain that splits the network into shards so it can add capacity as usage grows. It was co-founded by Illia Polosukhin and Alexander Skidanov, and Polosukhin is also one of the authors of the Transformer paper behind modern AI models. NEAR uses human-readable account names instead of long hex addresses and promotes chain abstraction: letting one account act on several blockchains. The NEAR token pays for transactions and storage and is delegated to NEAR validators.
