BRVX Glossary · Funding rate · Updated September 24, 2026

The funding rate is a periodic charge on an open perpetual futures position, quoted as a percentage of its size per interval; it is what keeps a contract with no expiry trading close to the price it tracks. On BRVX both longs and shorts pay a positive rate, every hour on most markets and every 3 hours on XYZ100.

The formula

Funding Notional × Funding rate paid every funding period

Funding is charged on the full position size, once per period, for as long as the position is open.

Which side pays funding?

It depends on the venue. On many perpetual venues the rate follows the gap between the contract and its reference price: above the reference, longs pay shorts; below it, shorts pay longs. On BRVX the published rate is positive for both sides, so a long and a short both pay while the position is open.

A rate is quoted per interval, not per year. Read it against the interval it settles on before comparing it to anything else.

Why it is charged on notional

Funding is calculated on the position's notional value, not on the margin behind it. With 1,000 USDT of collateral at 50x, the notional is 50,000 USDT and funding is computed on the 50,000.

That is why a rate that looks trivial against notional is a much larger number against the capital actually at risk, and why funding — not fees — is usually the dominant cost of holding a leveraged perpetual position. There is no expiry to stop it accruing.

  • Work out the cost across your intended holding period, not per interval.
  • Then work it out again at several times the current rate. Funding is variable.
  • Higher leverage multiplies the funding bill in exact proportion to notional.

Funding rates on BRVX

BRVX publishes a funding rate for every market and for each side. On BTC/USDT it is currently 0.0205% per hour for longs and 0.0171% for shorts. On NVDA/USDT it is 0.0023% for both sides.

Worked out over a day on a 1,000 USDT BTC long, that is about 4.93 USDT; on a 1,000 USDT NVDA position, about 0.5479 USDT.

Questions about Funding rate

How often is funding paid on BRVX?

Every hour on most markets and every 3 hours on XYZ100, the Nasdaq-100 tracker.

Is funding a fee?

For you it works as a holding cost. On BRVX it is charged separately from the opening and closing fee, on both longs and shorts, for every hour a position stays open.

Why is funding charged on notional?

Because it is a rate on the position's full size. At 50x, a funding rate costs fifty times more relative to your margin than it would at 1x.

Can the funding rate change?

Yes. Rates are set per market and side and can change, so check the current rate before holding a position for long.

Leverage works both ways: a small move against you can lose you the whole margin.
