About NVIDIA

From gaming cards to AI data centers

NVIDIA was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem to build graphics chips for PC games, and the GeForce line made it famous. In 2006 it released CUDA, a programming layer that let scientists run general maths on those chips. That bet turned into the base of modern AI training: today the data-center segment, selling accelerators, networking gear and software to cloud providers and AI labs, brings in most of the revenue. NVIDIA designs the chips and pays TSMC in Taiwan to make them.

What sets the NVDA price

Four inputs matter most. First, the quarterly report and the revenue guide for the next quarter; traders compare both with what analysts pencilled in. Second, capital-spending plans of Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Meta, the biggest buyers of AI servers. Third, US export rules for advanced chips to China, which have already forced NVIDIA to design cut-down products. Fourth, supply: advanced packaging and high-bandwidth memory from partners such as SK hynix and Micron cap how many accelerators can ship.

Past swings worth knowing

NVDA has had deep drawdowns, not only rallies. When crypto-mining demand for graphics cards collapsed in 2018 and again in 2022, inventory piled up and the stock lost more than half its value from the peak each time. The share was split 4-for-1 in 2021 and 10-for-1 in June 2024, so old price charts look very different from the quote you see now. Its weight in the Nasdaq-100 means one NVDA report can drag the whole index.

The event calendar

Results come out after the Nasdaq close, usually in late February, May, August and November. The GTC developer conference in March is where new chip generations are shown, and the market often trades the product roadmap presented there. Big-cloud earnings a few weeks earlier act as a preview, because their capital-spending numbers show how much they plan to buy.

Who buys the chips

A small group of customers accounts for a large part of data-center sales: the big US cloud platforms, consumer-internet giants and a few AI labs. That concentration cuts both ways. One cloud company raising its budget can lift the whole outlook, while a single buyer pausing orders or shifting to its own chips leaves a visible hole. Traders therefore read Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Meta reports almost as closely as NVIDIA's own.

Rivals and the CUDA moat

AMD sells the Instinct accelerators as an alternative, Google designs its own TPUs, Amazon has Trainium, and several customers work with Broadcom or Marvell on custom chips. NVIDIA's defence is software: millions of developers write code for CUDA, and switching away takes time and money. News that a major model was trained without NVIDIA hardware tends to hit the stock, as happened in January 2025 after DeepSeek's release.

NVIDIA as a perpetual on BRVX

BRVX quotes NVIDIA as NVDA/USDT, a synthetic perp without expiry that moves with the share and settles in USDT. Margin can be posted in USDC, BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL or BNB. Trading does not halt when Nasdaq closes, so the reaction to an after-hours report is priced straight away instead of waiting for the next open. Because no shares change hands, there are no dividends and no shareholder votes.

NVIDIA price FAQ

Step-by-step long and short: how to trade NVIDIA. Next report date and call time: NVIDIA earnings date.

Where is the NVIDIA share price right now?

The live BRVX quote for NVDA/USDT is 218.39 USDT, which is −5.04% versus 24 hours ago. It updates around the clock, so it includes after-hours and weekend moves that Nasdaq does not show until Monday.

How did the 10-for-1 split affect the price?

In June 2024 each old share became ten, so the price per share fell by about 90% overnight while the company value did not change. Charts before that date are adjusted, which is why the long-term history shows lower numbers than older news articles.

What multiplier can I pick on NVIDIA?

Anything from 5x to 50x; the form starts at 25x. Each step up magnifies losses as much as gains, and a report-day gap can wipe out a high-multiplier position before you react.

What will an NVDA position cost me?

A fee of 0.05% of the position value on entry and 0.05% on exit, plus funding of 0.0023% each hour for as long as the trade stays open. Rates come from the live tariff and can change.

Which stocks move together with NVIDIA?

Chip names tied to AI demand often move the same way on a big NVDA headline: AMD, Micron, Marvell and the Asian memory makers. The Nasdaq-100 follows too, since NVIDIA is one of its largest weights.

What happened to NVIDIA stock in January 2025?

On 27 January 2025 NVDA fell about 17% in one session after the Chinese lab DeepSeek released a model said to be trained with far fewer chips. It was one of the largest one-day losses in market value for any US company.

Which chip generations should I know about?

Hopper (the H100 and H200) drove the first AI wave, Blackwell followed, and Rubin is the next announced family. Delays or ramp problems with a new generation have moved the stock, because customers may wait for it.

How volatile is NVIDIA day to day?

30 sessions average 1.95% of range, split 18 up and 11 down; the biggest was 5.4% on Oct 15. Default leverage is 25x, where 4% against you is the whole margin.
