BRVX course: Perp trading basics · 7 min read · Updated September 25, 2026

A trading plan is a written set of rules that decides, before any trade, which markets you trade, what makes you enter and exit, how much you risk and when you stop. This lesson builds a one-page plan with 7 sections you can use on BRVX or anywhere else.

The hardest rule to follow is the daily limit, because it bites exactly when you want to win the money back. Writing it down before the session, and closing the app when it is hit, is the part of the plan that protects the rest of it.

Without a plan, every trade is a new decision made under pressure. With one, most decisions were made calmly the day before. The plan does not need to be clever; it needs to be followed.

Key takeaways

  1. Write the plan before the trade, not after.
  2. Every rule must be checkable: yes or no, not "when it looks good".
  3. Review the plan weekly against your trade log, and change it only then.

The 7 parts of a trading plan

  1. Markets

Two to four markets you will trade and the hours you will trade them.

  2. Setup

The one or two conditions that must be true before you look for an entry, for example price above the 50-day average.

  3. Entry

The exact trigger, such as a daily close above resistance.

  4. Exit

Where the stop goes and where the target goes, fixed at entry.

  5. Size

Risk per trade in % of the account and the formula from lesson 4.

  6. Limits

Maximum daily loss, maximum open positions, maximum leverage.

  7. Review

When you read your log and what you measure: win rate, average win, average loss.

A filled-in example

Entry4-hour close above the prior day's high
ExitStop under the entry candle's low; target 2× the stop distance
Size1% of the account per trade, leverage no higher than 5x
LimitsStop for the day at −2%; no more than 2 open positions
ReviewSunday: last week's trades against the plan

How it looks on BRVX

On BRVX the exit part of the plan maps directly to the take-profit and stop-loss fields of a position, so both can be set when the trade opens. Gold trades as XAUT/USDT, and BRVX sets leverage per market, so the leverage limit in your plan may be lower than the market's maximum.
