BRVX Glossary · Take-profit · Updated September 24, 2026

A take-profit is an order that closes a position automatically when the price reaches a target level, locking in the gain without the trader having to watch the market. For a long it sits above the entry price, for a short below it.

The formula

Long: target above entry Short: target below entry

The order waits at your target and closes the position when the price gets there.

How it works

  1. Set Target price
  2. Price reaches it Order triggers
  3. Closed Gain locked in

Take-profit and stop-loss together

A take-profit is usually set with a stop-loss. Together they define the trade before it is opened: the most it can make at the target and the most it should lose at the stop.

The ratio between the two distances is the reward-to-risk ratio. A target 6% away with a stop 2% away is 3:1 — the trade needs to work only one time in four to break even, before costs.

Reward-to-risk and break-even win rate

Reward : riskWin rate to break even (before costs)
1 : 150%
2 : 133%
3 : 125%

Costs move the target

Fees and funding come out of the gain. On a 1,000 USDT ETH/USDT position on BRVX, opening and closing cost 1.6 USDT in total, and holding a long for a day adds about 3.84 USDT in funding at the current rate. A target that is only just past the entry may not cover those.

Questions about Take-profit

Is a take-profit a limit order?

Usually. Most venues execute a take-profit as a limit or market order once the target is touched; the exact behaviour depends on the venue.

Can a take-profit miss?

Yes. If the price touches the target briefly, a limit order at that level may not fill completely.

Where should a take-profit go?

Where the trade idea expects the move to end, checked against the stop so the reward-to-risk ratio makes sense.
