BRVX Glossary · Collateral · Updated September 24, 2026

In trading, collateral is the asset a trader deposits to back a leveraged position. It backs the position's potential losses: gains are added to it, losses are deducted from it, and if it falls too far the position is liquidated.

The formula

Equity Collateral + Unrealised PnL

Gains are added to the collateral and losses taken from it until the position closes.

How it works

  1. Deposit Collateral
  2. Trade PnL adds or subtracts
  3. Too low Liquidation

Collateral vs margin

The words overlap. Collateral is what you deposit; margin is the part of it committed to a specific position. A venue may accept several assets as collateral while measuring margin in one unit, such as USDT.

Stablecoin vs volatile collateral

Stablecoin collateral keeps its value in dollar terms, so only the position moves the account. A volatile coin used as collateral adds a second exposure: if the coin falls while the position also loses, the buffer shrinks from two sides at once.

Venues usually apply a haircut to volatile collateral — they count it at less than its full market value — to allow for that second movement.

Questions about Collateral

What crypto can be used as collateral on BRVX?

USDC, BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL or BNB.

Is collateral the same as margin?

Not exactly. Collateral is the deposit; margin is the amount of it tied to an open position.

Can I lose my collateral?

Yes. Losses on a leveraged position are deducted from the collateral behind it, and liquidation can use up the margin on that position.

Leverage works both ways: a small move against you can lose you the whole margin.
