BRVX Glossary · Initial margin · Updated September 24, 2026
Initial margin is the collateral you lock to open a leveraged position: notional value divided by leverage. A 600 USDT position on XRP/USDT at 15x needs 40 USDT of initial margin; the same position at 5x needs 120 USDT.
The formula
Initial margin Notional ÷ Leverage
The higher the leverage, the less margin the same position needs to open.
How it works
- Position 2,000 USDT
- Leverage 20x
- Initial margin 100 USDT
Try it on XRP/USDT
Live XRP/USDT tariff. Simplified estimate: opening fee included, closing fee and funding not.
Position size 600 USDT
- A 1% move changes your margin by
- ± 6 USDT (15%)
- Move against you to liquidation
- 5.18%
- Opening fee
- 0.48 USDT
Leverage works both ways: a small move against you can lose you the whole margin.

Formula and margin rate
Initial margin = notional ÷ leverage, or as a rate, 1 ÷ leverage. At 15x you put up about 6.7% of the position, at 25x exactly 4%. Every extra step of leverage shrinks the share of the position that is your own money.
The leverage cap is the margin floor
Each market's maximum leverage sets its lowest possible initial margin. BTC/USDT goes up to 150x and TSLA/USDT up to 50x, so a 2,500 USDT position can be opened with less margin on BTC than on TSLA. At the other end, BRVX starts at 5x: even the lowest setting opens a position 5x the size of its margin.
- The opening fee is a percentage of the notional, not of the margin — 0.1% on BTC/USDT, 0.05% on TSLA/USDT — so the higher the leverage, the bigger the bite the fee takes out of the margin.
Questions about Initial margin
Does initial margin include the trading fee?
No. The margin is notional ÷ leverage; the opening fee is a separate charge on the notional. On a 600 USDT XRP/USDT position the fee is 0.08% of 600 USDT.
What happens to initial margin once the trade is open?
It stops being the reference. From then on profit and loss move the margin, and the position is checked against the maintenance margin to decide on liquidation.
How much initial margin does 2,500 USDT at 25x need?
100 USDT, because 2,500 ÷ 25 = 100. At 10x the same position would need 250 USDT.
Leverage works both ways: a small move against you can lose you the whole margin.
