BRVX Glossary · Cross margin vs isolated margin · Updated September 25, 2026
Cross margin uses the whole account balance to support all open positions, while isolated margin limits each position to the margin assigned to it. With cross margin a losing position can draw on the rest of the account; with isolated margin, at most the position's own margin is lost.
The formula
Cross: risk account balance Isolated: risk position margin
The mode decides how much of the account a single losing position can reach.
How it works
- Cross Shared balance
- Isolated Per-position margin

A worked example
An account holds 1,000 USDT and opens one position with 100 USDT of margin. In isolated mode, liquidation takes at most that 100 USDT. In cross mode, the other 900 USDT also backs the position, so it survives a larger move, but the loss can reach the whole balance.
When each is used
- Isolated: one-off trades where the maximum loss should be fixed in advance.
- Cross: hedged or offsetting positions, where gains on one support another.
- Either way, lower leverage leaves more room before liquidation.
Margin mode on BRVX
This page explains the general terms. BRVX does not state here whether margin is isolated per position or shared across the account, so size each BRVX position as if its whole margin can be lost.
Questions about Cross margin vs isolated margin
Is cross margin riskier than isolated margin?
Per position it is safer, because more funds back it; for the account it is riskier, because one position can use the whole balance.
What is isolated margin?
A mode where each position has its own margin and liquidation cannot take more than that amount.
Can I switch between cross and isolated margin?
On venues that offer both, usually yes, but often only while no position is open in that market.
