BRVX Glossary · Arbitrage · Updated September 25, 2026
Arbitrage is buying and selling the same or closely linked asset in different markets at the same time to profit from a price difference between them. In theory the two legs cancel out; in practice fees, slippage, transfer delays and funding eat into the gap.
Common types
- Spatial: the same asset trades at different prices on two venues.
- Cash-and-carry: buy spot, sell a future above it, hold to expiry.
- Funding-rate arbitrage: hold spot and short the perpetual to collect funding when the rate favours shorts.
- Triangular: three currency pairs quoted out of line with each other.
Why the gap is rarely free
Every leg pays a fee and crosses a spread. Moving collateral between venues takes time, during which prices move. A perpetual leg needs margin and can be liquidated if the market moves hard before the other leg is in place.
On BRVX
BRVX quotes each perpetual from its own price feed, not from an exchange order book, and charges an opening and a closing fee on the position size (0.1% each way on BTC/USDT). Funding settles every hour and, per the public API, is paid by both longs and shorts — which rules out collecting funding on a BRVX short as an arbitrage leg.
Questions about Arbitrage
Is arbitrage legal?
Yes. Buying in one market and selling in another is ordinary trading.
Is arbitrage free of risk?
No. Execution delay, fees, slippage and liquidation of a leveraged leg all turn a paper gap into a possible loss.
What is funding-rate arbitrage?
Holding the spot asset and an opposite perpetual position to collect the funding payment while the price exposure cancels out.
