BRVX course: Perp trading basics · 8 min read · Updated September 25, 2026

Risk management in trading is the set of rules that limits how much you can lose — per trade, per day and in total — so that no single mistake ends your account. On BRVX it rests on 3 tools: position size, leverage per market and a stop-loss attached to each position.

  1. Six rules for leveraged trading
  2. Liquidation is not a stop-loss
  3. How it looks on BRVX

Most accounts do not die from one bad idea. They die from a normal losing streak traded with too much size, or from one position left without a stop. Risk management is boring on purpose.

Key takeaways

  1. Cap the loss per trade and per day before you start.
  2. Every leveraged position gets a stop that sits well before liquidation.
  3. Positions in correlated markets are one bigger position.

Six rules for leveraged trading

  1. Cap risk per trade

1–2% of the account from entry to stop, sized with the formula from lesson 4.

  2. Cap loss per day

Stop trading for the day after, for example, 3% down. Tilted trading after losses is where accounts break.

  3. Stop before liquidation

Place the stop so it triggers well before the liquidation price, and treat the liquidation price as the disaster line, not the plan.

  4. Count correlated positions together

Long BTC, long ETH and long SOL at the same time behave much like one large crypto long.

  5. Price in holding costs

Funding and fees are charged on the full size; a trade held for days has to beat them.

  6. Write it down

Record every trade with its reason, stop and result. The log is how you find the rule you keep breaking.

Liquidation is not a stop-loss

Liquidation closes a position when its margin can no longer carry the loss, and it usually costs the whole margin of that position. A stop closes it at a level you chose, leaving margin for the next trade.

How it looks on BRVX

A BRVX position can carry a stop-loss and a take-profit from the moment it opens. Leverage is set per market, up to 150x on BTC/USDT and 50x on NVDA. BRVX has not published its exact liquidation formula, so the BRVX liquidation calculator gives an estimate — leave a wide margin between that estimate and your stop. Margin can be posted in USDC, BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL or BNB; a coin used as margin can fall together with a losing crypto long.

Risk management in trading: common questions

What is the most important rule of risk management?

Limiting the loss per trade so that a normal losing streak cannot end the account.

Is a stop-loss enough?

No. It needs a sensible size behind it, and it can slip in fast markets.

How much should I risk per day?

Many traders stop after losing 2–3% of the account in a day.
