About silver
The metal with two jobs
Roughly half of all silver mined each year ends up in factories rather than vaults. Solar panels use a silver paste on every cell, and electronics, brazing alloys and medical coatings take much of the rest. The other half goes into bars, coins, jewellery and silverware. That split means the metal reacts both to interest rates, like gold, and to the industrial cycle, like copper.
The gold-to-silver ratio
Traders divide the gold price by the silver price to see how many ounces of silver buy one ounce of gold. For most of the last fifty years the ratio has sat between 50 and 90; it spiked above 120 in March 2020 when industrial demand collapsed, then fell back quickly. When the ratio is stretched, some traders position for silver to catch up, though nothing forces it to.
Why the swings are bigger
Silver's market is a fraction of gold's by value, so a given flow of money moves the price further. Most output is a by-product of lead, zinc and copper mines, which means supply barely responds to price. The Hunt brothers' squeeze in 1980 and the retail rush of early 2021 both showed how fast a thin market can spike and then unwind.
Solar panels and the supply deficit
Photovoltaic makers became the fastest-growing buyers of silver after 2020 as solar installations in China surged. Industry groups such as the Silver Institute have reported demand exceeding mine and recycling supply for several years in a row, with the gap filled from above-ground stocks. Thrifting, meaning manufacturers using less silver per cell, is the main force that could slow that trend.
Silver on BRVX
The contract is SILVER/USDT. It tracks the metal's price and pays results out in USDC, BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL or BNB; you never hold bars or a silver token. The allowed multiplier is 5x–100x, and because silver often moves twice as far as gold in a day, even mid-range leverage can put the whole margin at risk.
