BRVX course: Perp trading basics · 7 min read · Updated September 25, 2026

A candlestick chart shows four prices for every period — open, high, low and close — as a body and two wicks, so one candle tells you who controlled the period and by how much. BRVX's chart offers timeframes from 1 minute to 1 month.

Every price chart you will trade from is a candlestick chart by default. Reading one takes about ten minutes to learn and a few weeks to do without thinking. This lesson is the ten minutes.

Key takeaways

  1. The body is open to close; the wicks are the high and the low.
  2. Colour shows direction; size shows conviction.
  3. The same candle means different things on different timeframes.

Anatomy of a candle

  • Body: from the open to the close of the period.
  • Green (or hollow): close above open. Red (or filled): close below open.
  • Upper wick: the highest price reached. Lower wick: the lowest.
  • A candle with a long wick and small body shows a price that was rejected.

What one candle tells you

A long green body with small wicks means buyers controlled the whole period. A small body with long wicks on both sides means a large fight with no winner. A long lower wick at the bottom of a fall means sellers pushed price down and buyers pushed it back — the story behind the hammer pattern.

Timeframes change the meaning

A 1-minute candle is one minute of noise; a daily candle is a day of decisions by far more traders. Beginners often read signals on a 1-minute chart and hold the trade for days. Pick the timeframe that matches how long you intend to hold.

How it looks on BRVX

BRVX's chart is TradingView, with timeframes from 1 minute to 1 month, drawing tools and the 24-hour high and low. Stock, commodity and EUR quotes on BRVX keep moving on weekends, so a BRVX daily chart of NVDA has Saturday and Sunday candles where a stock exchange chart shows a gap.
