A CFD, or contract for difference, is a derivative in which a trader and a provider exchange the difference in an asset's price between opening and closing the contract. It gives leveraged long or short exposure to stocks, indexes, commodities or currencies without owning them.

The formula

How a CFD differs from a perpetual

  • A CFD is a bilateral contract with a broker; the broker sets the price and the financing charge.
  • CFDs charge overnight financing on positions held past a cut-off; perpetuals use a funding rate settled on a fixed clock.
  • CFDs are banned for retail clients in the US and capped in leverage in the EU and UK.

Costs

Spread, commission on some products, and overnight financing that grows with holding time.

On BRVX

BRVX does not offer CFDs. It offers synthetic perpetual futures quoted in USDT, with funding every hour and a fee on opening and closing. BRVX does not provide services to US persons.
