BRVX Glossary · Short squeeze · Updated September 25, 2026
A short squeeze is a rapid price rise that forces traders holding short positions to buy back and close them, and that buying pushes the price higher still. It happens when many traders are short and a rally triggers their stop-losses, margin calls or liquidations at once.
The chain reaction
Shorts profit when price falls and lose when it rises. When price jumps, shorts hit their stops or get liquidated; each closing short is a market buy, which lifts the price and triggers the next wave. The same mechanism in reverse is a long squeeze.
Signs traders watch
- High short interest in stocks, or high open interest with shorts crowded in perpetuals.
- A funding rate that has turned sharply in favour of longs.
- A catalyst: earnings, news or a break of a key resistance level.
On BRVX
Shorting a BRVX perpetual needs no borrowed asset, so there is no stock-loan recall; the risk is price alone. A leveraged short can be liquidated in a squeeze even if the price later falls back; BRVX has not published its exact liquidation formula, so keep a stop-loss well inside that distance.
