What is different about Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday of November. The day after, Black Friday, is not a holiday but an early-close day, so US stocks get only three and a half hours of trading between Wednesday and Monday. Congress fixed the holiday to the fourth Thursday of November in 1941. That keeps Thanksgiving between November 22 and 28, and the Black Friday half session between November 23 and 29. The Wednesday before is a full session, so the last regular close ahead of the holiday comes at 4:00 p.m. ET that day.
