What is different about Presidents Day
Presidents Day is always the third Monday of February, so it makes a three-day weekend for US markets. Most federal offices and banks are closed too, and US bond markets follow the same day off. Washington’s Birthday was first a holiday for federal offices in the District of Columbia in 1879 and nationwide from 1885. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved it to the third Monday of February from 1971, so it now falls between February 15 and 21 and never on Washington’s actual birthday, February 22.
