Juneteenth became an NYSE holiday in 2022, so it is the newest date on the calendar. When June 19 falls on a Saturday the exchange closes on the Friday before — that is why in 2027 the market is closed on Friday, June 18. The date recalls June 19, 1865, when Union troops in Galveston, Texas announced the end of slavery. It was signed into law as a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, too late for NYSE to close that year; the first closure came on Monday, June 20, 2022, because June 19 was a Sunday. It is the only NYSE holiday added this century.
