BRVX Glossary · Position trading · Updated September 25, 2026

Position trading is a long-horizon trading style in which positions are held for weeks to months, sometimes years, to capture a major trend while ignoring short-term swings. It sits between swing trading, which holds for days, and buy-and-hold investing.

Trading styles by holding period

  • Scalping: seconds to minutes.
  • Day trading: within one day.
  • Swing trading: several days to a few weeks.
  • Position trading: weeks to months or longer.

Tools position traders use

Weekly and daily charts, the 50- and 200-day moving averages, fundamental or macro themes, and wide stops sized for large normal swings. Fewer trades mean lower fees, but each trade has to survive deeper pullbacks.

A worked comparison: a trend that takes four months to play out needs one entry and one exit; the same trend traded as swings might mean fifteen round trips, each paying the spread and fees. Journals matter more here than anywhere: with only a handful of trades a year, each one has to be reviewed for what went right and wrong.

Costs of holding

In spot markets, holding costs little. In derivatives, time is expensive: perpetual futures charge funding at every interval, and a year of funding can exceed the fees of hundreds of short trades. Leverage also has to be low enough to survive the drawdowns of a multi-month trend.

On BRVX

A BRVX position pays funding every hour on BTC/USDT for as long as it is open, and the minimum leverage is 5x, so month-long holding on BRVX carries a running cost that spot investing does not. Size and stops have to allow for that.

Questions about Position trading

Weeks to months, sometimes longer.

Is position trading the same as investing?

Close, but position traders still use exits and stops and trade both directions.

Is position trading good for beginners?

It needs fewer decisions than day trading, but deep drawdowns test patience.
