BRVX Glossary · Death cross · Updated September 25, 2026
A death cross happens when the 50-day moving average drops below the 200-day moving average. Traders read it as a warning that the longer-term trend has turned down — a confirmation of weakness already visible on the chart, not an early call.
The formula
Death cross: MA50 crosses below MA200
When the fast average sinks under the slow one, the market has spent weeks losing ground.
How it works
- Uptrend MA50 above MA200
- Weakness MA50 turns down
- Cross MA50 below MA200

Why it arrives after the drop
A 200-day average moves slowly: each new daily close shifts it by only 1/200 of the gap between that close and the one it replaces. So when the 50-day finally slips under it, the market has usually been falling for weeks. Much of the decline tends to happen before the cross, and some markets have turned up again not long after one.
Using a death cross to manage risk
- Cut leverage on open longs while the 50-day stays under the 200-day: a trend against you shortens the distance to liquidation.
- Look for lower highs and a broken support level before treating the cross as meaningful.
- Do not open a short on the cross alone — in sideways markets the two lines can cross back within days.
Death cross on a BRVX chart
Stock prices on BRVX keep moving on weekends, so a 200-day average there spans 200 calendar days rather than 200 exchange sessions, and the cross can print on a different date than on a stock-exchange chart. A short on BTC/USDT is opened with the same Sell button as a long, with no borrowing, leverage from 5x to 150x and a 0.1% fee to open.
Questions about Death cross
Does a death cross mean I should sell?
Not by itself. It says the trend has weakened; many traders respond by trimming long exposure or leverage rather than by opening a short.
Why do so many death crosses fail?
Because the signal arrives after much of the drop. When selling has run its course, price can recover and the 50-day climbs back over the 200-day.
Death cross vs golden cross — what is the difference?
Direction. In a death cross the 50-day falls below the 200-day; in a golden cross it rises above it. Both use the same two averages and both lag price.
Leverage works both ways: a small move against you can lose you the whole margin.
