BRVX Glossary · Capitulation · Updated September 25, 2026
Capitulation is the point in a falling market where holders give up and sell in a rush, driving prices sharply lower on very high volume. It often marks the last, most violent leg of a decline, though it can only be confirmed afterwards.

Signs traders look for
- Volume several times the recent average on down candles.
- A long lower wick as late buyers absorb the panic.
- Open interest dropping fast as leveraged longs are liquidated.
- Sentiment at extremes: headlines about the end of the asset.
Why it is hard to trade
Every sharp fall looks like capitulation while it is happening. Bitcoin had several apparent capitulation days in 2022 — in May, June and November — and price made new lows after the first two. Buying the first spike in volume is catching a falling knife unless price then holds a level.
Capitulation in perpetual markets
In perpetuals, capitulation is amplified by liquidations: each forced sale pushes price into the next cluster of liquidation levels. When open interest has been flushed and funding turns neutral or negative, the forced selling is usually exhausted.
On BRVX
On BRVX, positions are opened with at least 5x leverage, so a capitulation candle can close a long through liquidation before any rebound. A stop-loss set below the level you are betting on caps the loss at a size you chose instead of the margin.
Questions about Capitulation
What does capitulation mean in crypto?
A wave of panic selling where holders give up at a loss, usually on record volume.
Does capitulation mean the bottom is in?
Not always. It is often near a low, but it can only be confirmed after price stops falling.
How is capitulation different from a correction?
A correction is an orderly fall of about 10%; capitulation is a fast, emotional sell-off late in a decline.
