What the copper perpetual is

Copper goes into wiring, power grids, electric vehicles and data centres, so its price is read as a gauge of the world economy. China uses about half of global supply.

The BRVX perp tracks the copper price in USDT with no expiry and no delivery.

Benchmark prices are set on the London Metal Exchange and COMEX in New York, and Shanghai trades copper too. Since US tariffs, the New York price has at times traded well above London, a gap traders watch closely.

What moves copper

Growth and supply.

  • Chinese property and manufacturing data.
  • Mine disruptions in Chile, Peru and Congo.
  • US tariffs on imported copper, which have split US and London prices.

Long or short Copper?

A copper long bets on Chinese demand, grid spending or supply cuts.

A copper short bets on weak China data or tariffs reversing.
