BRVX Glossary · Rising wedge · Updated September 25, 2026

A rising wedge is a bearish chart pattern in which price climbs between two upward-sloping trend lines that converge, showing each new high is gained with less momentum. It usually resolves with a break below the lower line.

Spotting a rising wedge

  • Each push higher makes a new high, but by a smaller margin than the last.
  • The lower boundary climbs faster than the upper one, squeezing the range.
  • Two touches per side is the minimum; three per side is far more convincing.
  • Participation usually thins out as the squeeze tightens.

Confirming the breakdown

The pattern completes on a close below the lower line. A common target is the start of the wedge — its widest point. Some traders wait for a retest of the broken line from below before entering.

Wedge or bear flag?

A bear flag's lines are parallel and it follows a sharp drop; a rising wedge's lines converge and it can form after either an uptrend (as a reversal) or a downtrend (as continuation).

On BRVX

On BRVX the pattern is drawn with the chart's line tool across the highs and lows. On stock perpetuals the BRVX chart has weekend candles, which can add a touch point an exchange chart lacks, so a wedge seen on one chart may not appear on the other.

Questions about Rising wedge

Is a rising wedge bullish or bearish?

Bearish; it usually breaks to the downside.

What is the opposite of a rising wedge?

A falling wedge, which usually breaks upwards.

How reliable is a rising wedge?

It fails often enough that most traders wait for a confirmed close below the lower line.
