Amazon closes its books with the calendar, and the July-to-September quarter goes into the holiday season: the release, normally in the last days of October, is the final one before Prime Day deals turn into Christmas orders. A short press release on ir.aboutamazon.com sets the webcast, which starts at 5:00 p.m. ET once regular trading has ended. Amazon splits results into North America, International and AWS. AWS is the smallest segment by sales but has usually delivered most of Amazon’s operating income.

Names from Amazon's own reporting. We do not publish forecasts.
Amazon gives a range for next-quarter operating income in the release, and the market reads AWS growth and that range together. Both land at once after the close, so AMZN often reprices before most traders in Europe are awake.
Traders often weigh the operating-income range for the coming quarter against the one just closed. A wide range can mean a wide first move in AMZN.
At 10x on Amazon a move of about 7.9% the wrong way takes the whole margin.
